Eating healthy doesn't have to be a chore or a boring task. I've heard from many, that to be healthy, you must eat like a rabbit choosing salads over substance. Nothing could be further from the TRUTH. Here are five reasons eating healthy is easier than you think.
1) Balance & portion control are key to a healthy lifestyle. Include a portion of each: protein, carbs, and veggies for lunch and dinner. Also, do not be afraid to have a sweet after your meal once in a while, which goes into my second point.
2) You don't have to deprive yourself of food that your body may crave. When you deprive yourself of something, your body wants it more. If I'm craving chocolate, I allow myself 1 or 2 squares of dark, because it's a healthier choice. Also, if you want a cookie, eat a cookie but don’t eat the whole box. If you are out with friends and go get ice cream, choose the low sugar or frozen yogurt kind. Little things like this help me stay healthy, happy and sane.
3) Stay away from processed food! Anything you eat that's not fresh or comes out of a container. Trust me its easier than it sounds! Watch out for artificial additives and ingredients you would most likely not cook with at home. If it didn't come from nature it is most likely processed. Your body needs real food to function.
4)Healthy eating can be fun and not to mention cheaper because you are cooking at home! As a full time model I'm always on the go and its super easy to grab fast food. I'm always asked, "what's your favorite restaurant in LA, Paris, Miami etc. ?" and I always tell them... my apartment kitchen. Don't get me wrong, it's okay once in a while to eat out but, you must understand how to read the menu. Just because you see a salad doesn't mean it's healthy. Some fast food salads can be over 1000 calories. WOW! I know crazy right? So the bottom line is when you cook for yourself you know what's in your food and how it is seasoned or sauced. That is where the calories add up.
5) You don't have to count calories. Counting calories can be too mentally stressful and can lead to making eating healthy a stressful task. Have an idea of what your range is, mines 1500-1600, and keep the idea of that in your head. If you are eating the right food and keeping portion control you will stay in the right range of calories based on your weight.
